Workshops and Performances
We’re excited to share some of the meaningful projects we’re working on this season!
In partnership with our longtime friends at East Meadow Library, we’re co-hosting a Juneteenth celebration — a holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the U.S. Our longtime collaborator will perform with his band, The Elder Statesmen: African American Gospel, to honor and uplift his community’s heritage.
We're also developing upcoming projects with our newest partner, Latinos in Heritage Conservation, to spotlight Long Island’s vibrant Latino communities — including the rich traditions of Andean artisans.
And on May 16th, we’re teaming up with Westbury Arts for our very first pop-up event! This evening of cultural connection will feature games, food, music, and more — all while introducing the public to our mission of preserving and promoting Long Island’s cultural diversity.
Looking ahead to summer, we’re hosting two teaching artist workshops on August 18 & 19 in collaboration with Eastern Suffolk BOCES and Local Learning. In these workshops, participants will:
Gain tools to engage diverse student communities and their families
Build skills in using inquiry as a culturally responsive teaching strategy
Explore the complexity and context of culturally embedded knowledge and arts
