Workshops and Performances

We’re excited to share some of the meaningful projects we’re working on this season!

  1. In partnership with our longtime friends at East Meadow Library, we’re co-hosting a Juneteenth celebration — a holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the U.S. Our longtime collaborator will perform with his band, The Elder Statesmen: African American Gospel, to honor and uplift his community’s heritage.

  2. We're also developing upcoming projects with our newest partner, Latinos in Heritage Conservation, to spotlight Long Island’s vibrant Latino communities — including the rich traditions of Andean artisans.

  3. And on May 16th, we’re teaming up with Westbury Arts for our very first pop-up event! This evening of cultural connection will feature games, food, music, and more — all while introducing the public to our mission of preserving and promoting Long Island’s cultural diversity.

  4. Looking ahead to summer, we’re hosting two teaching artist workshops on August 18 & 19 in collaboration with Eastern Suffolk BOCES and Local Learning. In these workshops, participants will:

    • Gain tools to engage diverse student communities and their families

    • Build skills in using inquiry as a culturally responsive teaching strategy

    • Explore the complexity and context of culturally embedded knowledge and arts
