OLUWASEYI AWOYOMI (SHAYEE)

Meet Shayee Arts

Oluwaseyi Awoyomi (Shayee) is a natural-born, multifaceted artist born into a family of visual and performing artists: Nike Okundaye and Prince Twins Seven-Seven. Art, visuals, and performing have always been native to her as she started at the tender age of 3, dancing, singing, and doing textile and painting alongside her mother, Nike Okundaye. She has always found a way to infuse her artistic background/ talent in every area of her life.

Married and a mother of three boys, she holds a Bachelor's Degree in Entertainment Technology from New York City College of Technology, specializing in stage performance and costume design. Shayee lives for art and always finds a way to incorporate art into whatever she does. Shayee still finds the time and an opportunity to proudly showcase the dance, art, culture, and Tourism of Nigeria, following closely in her mother's footsteps while contributing to the Art and Culture of her Nation.

Shayee loves learning, and learning comes from being dynamic and resourceful, which led me to work with various mediums. I can work effectively using multiple media. In a nutshell, Shayee is a multimedia and multidimensional artist, a cultural dance artist/performer, actor, singer, painter, sculptor, and a textile designer to boot. Shaye always says, “Art is a language of many dialects, and my medium of choice at any time is how I speak and communicate my truth.”

Drawing inspiration from many artists, especially the Nigerian artists of the Osogbo school, for one reason or another, which ranges from their sustenance in the industry, some of their ever-unique innate and unchanging styles over the years, and others for their "playfulness," freedom, and limitless vision.

She is ambitious to preserve and promote to the best of her ability and capacity the various art mediums from the generation of the Osogbo school of art, to which her parents belong. Also, she hopes to advance her education to share experiences and impart knowledge to future generations.
