SEJAL KUKADIA
Sejal Kukadia: Tabla Player and Teacher

Sejal Kukadia is a tabla player and teacher based on Long Island, NY. Born and raised in upstate New York, she was surrounded by traditional Indian musical instruments from a young age. Kukadia now lives and works in the Hamptons, where her main musical focus is teaching young students and leading engaging workshops that educate diverse audiences about the depth and beauty of Indian music.
Her journey with the tabla began in her youth, but it wasn’t until college that she committed herself fully to the instrument. After attending an inspiring percussion concert in Manhattan, Sejal made the life-changing decision to dedicate herself to tabla.
Tabla compositions were traditionally transmitted orally, emphasizing listening and memorization rather than written notation—a method Sejal continues to value for its depth and authenticity.
Since moving to Long Island in 2009, Sejal has continued to teach and perform across the region, offering classes through community organizations and schools.
As a performer, she is a member of the Middle Eastern Sephardic music band Divahn, with whom she has performed nationwide. Her students come from diverse backgrounds, united by a shared love for rhythm, culture and tradition.
