Description:
This house is one of the few examples of the Italianate style in this neighborhood. Two stories high and three bays wide, its square massing and low pitched roof are typical of Italianate architecture. The house is of frame construction with decorative features such as paired eave brackets, fascia trim, and Doric porch columns. Its original clapboard siding has been replaced with asbestos, and its gable roof is clad in asphalt shingle. An interior brick chimney rises from the middle of its ridge line. The house has a south wing that is one story tall with an eave front gable end roof. Its roof flares out in front and extends to create the porch. The double hung windows are one-over-one replacements.
The property’s tax assessment card says states that the house dates from 1920, however its Italianate style would suggest the mid to late nineteenth century. The house appears on an 1872 map of Patchogue as a property owned by L. Wicks. On an 1888 map, it is shown as owned by Mrs. DA Wicks.
